Autism in today’s world

Part of my heart walks outside of my body. I have both the honor and the privilege of being “Grammy” to the most incredible, little boy - who happens to be autistic. Don't get me wrong, I love all of my grand-kiddos (and their parents), but this little boy is so special to me. It's love at a different level.

He's actually the reason this website exists. He's the reason my research continues. His world has opened my eyes and heart. I’m always exploring places, spaces, and experiences where he can feel safe, comfortable, welcomed, and included.

Today's society isn't equipped to accommodate those who need a little extra (time, effort, services, etc.). 1 in 31 children in the United States have been diagnosed with ASD; globally the rate is approximately 1 in 100 children. (source: cdc.gov).

As of July 2025, there were approximately 73 million children living in the U.S.. Out of those 73,000,000 over two million kids are living with an autism diagnosis. (source: scienceinsights.org) .

Boys are diagnosed on the spectrum 3 times more than girls.  To me, that's reason enough to learn all I can and do as much as possible to make the world (his world) a safer place.
