What is neurodiversity?

What is Autism?

Neurodiversity means that people’s brains can work in many different ways. Some people’s brains think, learn, communicate, play, or experience sounds, lights, and feelings differently from others.

Autism is one way a brain can be different. Autistic people may have special interests, notice things others don’t, communicate differently, or need extra help with certain situations. Everyone’s brain is unique, and being different isn’t wrong—it’s simply one part of what makes each person who they are.

Neurodivergent: A person whose neurological functioning differs from what is considered typical

Neurodiversity: The idea that neurological differences naturally exist across humanity

Neuroinclusive: An environment, service, organization, or experience designed to include people with different neurological needs

Neurotypical: A person whose neurological functioning generally aligns with societal norms
